UGent binge-eating bacteria extract energy from sewage

New research shows that sewage contains a source of energy that can be harvested by using hungry bacteria. Researchers from Ghent University discovered how to efficiently extract this energy from the wastewater.

On 22 September 2016, the third Interreg Call has been launched with deadline January 13th, 2017. 43 million€ budget will be divided over 4 domains: Innovation, Energy, Environment and labor market (job mobility). Decision is expected in April 2017.

Flemish PhD Cup

On 29 September 2016, the first Flemish PhD Cup from Canvas was awarded. 8 finalists competed, presenting their work in 3 minutes to the jury. Andy Gijbels (KULeuven) won the PhD Cup with his work on robotics for eye surgery. Second and third place went to Heleen Dewitte and Didier Snoeck.
