VUB - SURF Researcher Hans Simillion receives Umicore Master Award  In addition to the annual award for excellent doctoral research, Umicore also awards four prizes to outstanding master theses that creatively contribute to any of the active research sectors at Umicore. The sixth edition, which took place on May 2, 2013 brought a member of the VUB SURF department, research group lead by Prof. Herman Terryn, to the forefront as one of the laureates. Hans Simillion was honored for his research on nano-containers, designed as carriers for anti-corrosion components. Corrosion performance can be enhanced significantly by incorporating these nano-containers into organic coatings. This study is part of a broader research project of the group; The development of self-healing coatings and the search for non-toxic, environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors.
