EMIRI as a new European industry driven initiative

EMIRI is a European industry driven initiative, whose members are dedicated to finding together the skills and expertise of both the research community and industry to implement energy materials innovation programs for a competitive low-carbon energy sector.

A number of SIM members and companies involved in SIM programs are also represented in EMIRI: Umicore, Bekaert, AGC, ArcelorMittal, KULeuven, Imec.

The EMIRI ambition is for publicly funded research programs to be fully valorised in the market place.

EMIRI’s orientation is therefore based on the cross cutting enabling SET Plan Materials Roadmap to address the complexity of bringing advanced materials program through to full economic valorisation in Europe.

This way it addresses the twin grand societal challenges of climate change and reliable, affordable energy, while integrating the full value chain to ensure fully appropriate materials’ cost – performance ratio.

As such, there is a clear link with the SIM-theme ‘Materials for Energy and Light’. (http://www.sim-flanders.be/sim-themes)

EMIRI is inclusive of any organisation willing to commit to advanced materials research, development and innovation programmes for low carbon energy applications.
