PUrePAIR is an acronym for "polyurethane foams and elastomers with autonomic repair functions"

The general purpose of the PUrePAIR project was to develop new and improved polyurethane foams and elastomers with self-healing properties. The self-healing capacity was to be obtained by adding microcapsules with a newly developed chemistry as healing agent.

Following objectives were envisaged:

  • Development of new microcapsules to incorporate various chemistries and development of a continuous production process for the capsules
  • Development of a new route for the self-healing concept
  • Evaluation on processing of incorporating self-healing microcapsules in PU foams and elastomers
  • Proof-of-concept of self-healing in a PU matrix

This project was linked to the outcome of the SBO project SEPOCOM.

This project is part of:

Self-healing engineering materials: cementitious, polymeric and coating materials with the ability to heal damage autonomously.
