Optimized pressure vessels through composite Variability Simulation
Composite Pressure Vessels (CPVs) are the preferred choice for the storage of alternative fuels, such as hydrogen. The ICON project OptiVaS aims to establish design and manufacturing guidelines that will enable the optimization of the safety margins in CPVs.
Through testing and data-driven analysis the influence of manufacturing parameters that impact the design of CPVs will be captured. This will result in improved computer-aided engineering (CAE) to improve production and parametric computer-aided design (CAD) to optimize the vessel design. This way variability of CPVs performance can be lowered and thus the reliability improved resulting in the reduction of safety factors (lowering the required quantity of materials and thus weight).
