ISHECO is short for: Impact of Self-Healing Engineered materials on steel COrrosion in reinforced concrete

The ISHECO SBO project centers on the question how self-healing materials can prevent the early degradation of reinforced concrete due to steel corrosion. Three research tracks will be followed:

  • Self-healing concrete (with various self-healing approaches)
  • Self-healing barrier coating on the outer surface of the concrete
  • Self-healing coating on the steel inside the concrete

The research in ISHECO combines complementary expertise generated in the SBO’s SECEMIN and NAPROM.

Results obtained in the ISHECO-project are published by Scientific Reports - Nature (September 2018). This journal has an open access policy and you can freely download and distribute the paper.

This project is part of:

Self-healing engineering materials: cementitious, polymeric and coating materials with the ability to heal damage autonomously.
