DETECT-IV
The project DETECT-IV is a SIM SBO project with the title “Model-supported development of non-destructive testing (NDT) methods for defect DETECTion in composite parts with Industrial complexity and Volume production”.
In this SBO project, the general goal is to develop novel NDT techniques that can detect defects in composite parts with industrial complexity, and this within a limited inspection time so that inspection of composite components in volume production becomes feasible. Corresponding numerical models will be developed to support the development of the NDT techniques and to interpret the NDT data. Three classes of NDT techniques are investigated: (i) high frequency vibration techniques (Local Defect Resonance), (ii) vibro-acoustic methods and (iii) thermal imaging methods.

The research group “Mechanics of Materials and Structures” of Ghent University (UGent-MMS, Prof. Wim Van Paepegem) is coordinator of this project. Other academic partners are the “Noise & Vibration Research Group” of KULeuven (KULeuven-PMA, Prof. Wim Desmet) and the “Acoustics and Vibration Research Group” of VUB (VUB-AVRG, Prof. Patrick Guillaume).
The industrial partners of the Industrial Advisory Board are the Flemish companies Siemens Industry Software (SISW), Sabca, ENGIE Lab Laborelec and Eddy Merckx Cycles. The international industrial partners are Honda R&D (Japan) and Optomet (Germany).
